XPress Inc. is a full-service dental marketing company that provides expert marketing strategies for hundreds of dentists across the country. Our goal is to get you an excellent ROI for every marketing dollar you spend. Today, I want to discuss a tip for dentists who are looking to expand their practice via marketing. Our clients frequently ask, “Should we include a New Patient Special Offer on our website?” And the answer is yes, you should. Let’s discuss why that is.
A recent survey discovered that
two thirds of people have purchased a product or service they were not originally intending to buy simply because they found a coupon or discount. If they were undecided on whether to buy the product or not, or which brand to buy from, it was found that an
offer closed the deal. The discount offer is what pushes the customer over the edge and gets them to decide to make the purchase. Everyone likes a deal, even rich people like deals. So give new patients a deal.
Right now, if you’re looking for a company to handle your marketing, you may or may not go with my company
XPress Inc. What's going to be one of the main reasons why you would or wouldn’t go with me? It’s the budget: how much am I going to charge you for my services versus what somebody else would charge? That’s one of the biggest questions I'm asked, along with, "Well, what sets you apart? Why shouldn't I go with somebody else?"
Now I could try to sell you on my company and explain how the difference between
XPress Inc. and the other marketing guy is not apples to apples. But you want a deal. So if I say, "Sign up today and get a $500 discount on your marketing package," that's going to be better motivation than saying you should choose me, "Because I'm awesome." Right? Everybody likes a deal.
Offers get attention. It’s as simple as that. Now in marketing, you want what’s called a
call to action (CTA).
This is usually a brief statement that compels the consumer to do a specific action, like sign up for a mailing list or call to schedule an appointment. A New Patient Special Offer on your website is another type of CTA. It gets the person to pick up the phone and call to take advantage of your offer.
There are many different New Patient Special Offers you can use in your marketing depending on what makes the most economic sense for your practice. Some popular ones include:
The offer you choose will depend on your office, your ideal customer demographic, and similar factors. If you’re in a quandary and don’t know what to put on your website as your special offer, look up your competition on Google and see what their offers are. You'll be surprised, a lot of them don't put up offers. But the smart ones (the ones that are busy and that are going to be your biggest competition) put up offers. Find what their offers are, be competitive, and match or beat them.
When you’re looking at your competition to determine which offer you should add to your website, take into consideration that there might be different types of dentistry in your area. For example, if you offer more of a boutique, high-end PPO dental care, you don’t want to look at what someone like Aspen Dental is doing and emulate them. That’s not necessarily your competition. So keep in mind that dental offices are not apples to apples.
In the above example, if you’re a high-end dental office, I would recommend you look at other fee for service, PPO-based practices. Or if you mainly accept Medicaid patients, you can look at other Medicaid insurance based practices. The point is to look at your competition, see what they are doing, and then try to match or beat that.
